The relevance of an organisation is determined by the energy it moves towards its borders.

A lot of energy inside organisation is put  into solving internal issues. At the same time the ultimate relevance of all internal activity is decided at the border of the organisation where the exchange of value takes place.

So all energy that is not guided towards the outside world, can be regarded as waste. Or as negative value added.

We should keep that in mind when we design organisation.
