Individual positions in multiple organisational frames: the reality of contextual loyalty as a design parameter


People leading an organisation strive to engage the people in that organisation to be a loyal part of that organisation. Through various degrees of commitment. Or through more or less covered forms of compulsion.

The design of organisations focuses merely on a one dimensional belonging of an individual to an organisation. However, the reality is that most people belong to multiple organizations in various forms.

Designers should make sure that this organisation design challenge is not solved  at the expense of the individual through unattainable loyalty or adherence. This will do more harm than good to the organisation.
